5 days Aberdare walking and hiking safari takes you along a ridge that lies between Mount Kenya and Great Rift Valley. This ridge rises high to a height of 4001 meters, this mountain range has a lush mountain forests cover on the lower salient area; bamboo belt, and the moorland on the upper.

Aberdare National Park is a habitat to Kenya’s highest waterfalls, Karuru waterfalls the largest in Kenya. The Aberdares, provide exceptional hiking terrain, stunning views, and big game.

Detailed Itinerary For 5 Days Aberdare Walking and hiking Safari

Day 1: Nairobi to Kiandongoro

You will be picked by a Bushtroop tours and safari guide  from Nairobi in the morning and drive to Nyeri town where you will meet our guide, cook and porters and then proceed to Kiandongoro Gate 2,950m. After checking in, you will take a 30 minutes walk to the Reedbuck campsite arriving for lunch. Spend the afternoon accompanied by your guide and an armed ranger as you visit several attractive waterfalls that include Karuru, Gura + Queen’s cave and view of Magura waterfalls and later return to the camp in the evening for dinner and overnight. (4-5 hours walking round trip to the waterfalls.)

Day 2: Reedbuck Campsite to Simba River Campsite.

After breakfast, you have a gentle hike through the moorland, viewing high altitude plants and visit Chania falls on the en-route. This is also a habitat for wildlife including Elephants, lions, buffaloes, antelopes and various bird species and can be encountered sometimes as you proceed towards Simba River campsite for dinner and overnight (6-7 hours)

Day 3: Simba River Campsite to Wandare’s road junction Campsite

After breakfast, hike through the Hagenia Forest towards Wandare passing the Honi river where you stop after a short walk for lunch. After lunch, the hike continues for 1.5 hrs through the Hagenia forest to the Junction Campsite for dinner and overnight (5-6 hours)

Day 4: Junction Campsite – Le Satima to Dragon’s Teeth Campsite.

After breakfast, the hike starts early in the morning through the Hagenia forest and Heather zone to the Roadhead Camp (2-3 hours). From the roadhead, you will follow the trail covered high alpine vegetations for another 2 hrs hike to the top of Oldoinyo Le Satima Peak (4001m) which is the highest point in the Aberdares overlooking the Great Rift Valley and Lake Ol Bolosat to the West, and the views of Mount Kenya to the East. Descend via the scenic route to Shamata on the Northern Aberdares, comprising the Dragon’s teeth – a sporadic rock formation rising from the wet moorland and bogs where we pitch the camp , dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Junction to Shamata or Rhino gate.

After breakfast, we hike down through the wet and boggy moorland to the roadhead and continue with the hike passing the Twin peaks – A pair of large volcanic towers, situated near one another (the Nipple) to the junction where you will connect the transfer vehicle and drive down the road through the Cedar and other tropical rainforest trees those dominating this forest to Shamata gate or Rhino gate to sign out of the park and meet then drive back to Nairobi or the next of your destination.

Note:

You can also include this trip with a safari to Samburu National Reserve, otherwise, you can also trek abardare in 4 days, in case you have limited time.
