Kibale Forest National Park is one amongst Uganda’s the most beautiful national parks with many areas of tropical rain forest and numerous animals. The park shelters a total area of 795 km2 comprising of rain forest, swamps, rivers and some grassland areas. The park also shelters about 1,450 chimpanzees out of the 13 primate groups inside the park.
Kibale Forest national Parks offers two chimpanzee trekking sessions, that is in the morning, between which you can choose depending on your travel schedule. According to the trekking rules and regulations in Kibale forest National Park, you are allowed to only trek stay in the presence of chimpanzees for at most 1 hour, on finding them
Detailed Itinerary for 3 day Uganda Chimpanzee Tracking Safari
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale National Park
On this day 1, you will travel to Kibale forest national park, for chimpanzee trekking and tracking. You will be picked from Entebbe International Airport and transfer you to your lodge in Kibale Forest National Park. You will enjoy scenic views, incredible landscapes, cultural homes and spot large number of bird species.
Enroute you stopover for lunch in Fort portal town – the tourism capital of Uganda due to the spectacular landscapes and attractions. You will reach the lodge in the evening for dinner and an overnight sleep.
On the other hand, you can take a flight to Kasese airstrip from where you will be picked up from, and later be transferred by road to the lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzees trekking in Kibale national park
Following your breakfast, You will be driven to the briefing point after breakfast to learn about the code of conduct of gorilla tracking at the park headquarters. The driver guide with then transfer you along with the ranger guide to the trail head where chimpanzee tracking usually starts. Depending on your chimpanzee group, you will begin your chimpanzee search, which may take upto 5 hours from 2, depending on how far the chimpanzee may have moved from the location where they were seen the previous day. Watch the chimpanzees, for at most 1 hour upon finding them in their natural habitat. You will observe them feed, play jump from branch to branch in the canopy high above the forest floor, among others. Thereafter, you will return to the hotel for lunch, then head to explore the Bigodi village. Here you have the chance to visit the swamp with diverse butterflies, plants, animals and numerous birds including the Great Blue Turaco, which makes it a birds paradise for avid birders.
Dinner & an overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Departure
Wake up for breakfast, and later on depart Kibale forest national Park for Kampala or Entebbe, with enroute lunch in Mbarara.
However if you are to travel by flight, you will be dropped at the airstrip for your return flight.
